BABA GRABS 5TH ON DAY 5 OF JR WORLD C'SHIPS

BUCHAREST (July 30) – Senshu University's Takahiro Baba posted a pair of wins against two losses and earned a fifth place finish on the opening day of men's freestyle at the junior wrestling world championships.

After opening with a win at 96kg, Baba was pinned by eventual silver medalist Mamuka Kordzaia (GEO). He recorded a consolation bracket win over Pan American junior champ Chanmit Phulka (CAN), but fell to European junior champ Aslanbek Alborov (AZE) in the bout for third place.

Daisuke Shimada of Kokushikan University also notched a win at 74kg, but could advance no further, settling for 12th place overall.

At 60kg, Waseda's Makoto Kuwabara fell in the first round to Maxim Perpelita (MDA) at 60kg and did not get a chance to wrestle in repechage when the eventual bronze medalist lost in the quarterfinals.

Japan did not have an entry at 50kg.
