IWAMA POSTS WIN, EARNS 10TH AT JR WORLD C’SHIPS

ANKARA (August 5) - Senshu University’s Shohei Iwama won by fall in his first match at 84kg, but could advance no further in the greco-roman competition on the second day of the junior world wrestling championships.

Iwama was tripped up in the second round by last year’s European cadet champion Aslan Atem of Turkey and had to settle for 10th place overall, matching teammate Kosei Taguchi’s 10th place finish at 50kg the previous day.

Also on the final day of greco-roman matches, Daichi Matsuda of the Nippon Sports Science University fell at 55kg to last year’s European cadet runner-up while NSSU teammate Takuya Tomizuka lost his first match at 66kg. Neither of their opponents advanced to the final, so Matsuda and Tomizuka did not qualify for the repechage matches.

Toru Nishiki faced a tough draw at 120kg, losing by technical superiority to last year’s European junior champion Vladimir Ilnitski of Russia, and then suffered another technical fall against Asia junior runner-up and senior bronze medalist Murat Ramonov of Kyrgyzstan in the consolation brackets.
