KURAMOTO SNARES SILVER AT WORLD UNI C’SHIPS

THESSALONIKI, Greece (July 13) - Kazuma Kuramoto racked up three wins and only lost to a former Asia cadet champion on his way to a silver medal on the final day of the world university wrestling championships.

Kuramoto of Yamanashi Gakuin University defeated Belarus national team member Dzmitry Alenski in the semifinals before stumbling in the gold medal match against Almat Kebispayev of Kazakhstan.

Kebispayev was the Asia cadet champion in 2004 and seventh in last year’s junior world championships. Meanwhile, Yuichi Tanaka, formerly of the Nippon Sports Science University, fell in the match for third place at 74 kg and had to settle for fifth.

Kuramoto’s silver medal along with a bronze medal by Ryo Minemura at 55 kg the previous day left Japan in eighth place overall in the final team standings.
