R. MATSUMOTO 7TH ON OPENING DAY OF JR WORLD C'SHIPS





    GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala (August 29) - Ryutaro Matsumoto of Nippon Sports Science University posted a pair of wins at 60 kg to claim seventh place on the opening day of the junior wrestling world championships.

    Matsumoto won by default over Armenia's Khosrov Melikyan, a bronze medalist in the European junior meet, in the opening round and then stopped Aleksandar Maksimovic of Serbia-Montenegro 7-0, 2-1 in the round of 16.
Matsumoto, from Gunma'S Tatebayashi high school, fell in the quarterfinals to Cuba's Sergio Rodriguez Martinez of Cuba 0-3, 0-3 and did not advance to the repechage matches.

    Hyogo high school student Masaharu Kaji and Yusuke Yamamoto of Yamanashi Gakuin University lost to a pair of European junior bronze medalists in the first round.
