JWF HOLDS SEND-OFF PARTY FOR WORLD C’SHIPS SQUADS
TOKYO (September 20) - The Japan Wrestling Federation hosted a send-off
party for its squads headed to the world championships September 25-October
1 in China.
About 100 JWF officials, wrestling supporters and fans attended the party
at Meiji Kinen Kaikan in central Tokyo and sent the team off with a rousing
cheer. Members of the Hungarian women’s wrestling team, which had been
training in Japan prior to the championships, also attended the party.
TAKUSHOKU WINS NATIONAL COLLEGIATE DUALS TITLE
TOKYO (September 16) - Takushoku University reversed a 2-5 loss to Waseda
University this spring with a 5-2 triumph of its own to claim its first-ever
national collegiate wrestling duals championship title.
Junior national champ Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu scored a key victory over three-time
collegiate open champion Tsukasa Sato at 66 kg to spark the win over Waseda
at Komazawa Gymnasium in Tokyo. Takushoku defeated Nippon Sports Science
University (NSSU) 4-3 in the semifinals, while Waseda downed Nihon University
(Nichidai) by the same
score.
Against NSSU at 66 kg, Kohei Fujimoto upset 60-kg collegiate open champion
Kenichi Yumoto to key the Takushoku win. In the dual for third place, NSSU,
winner of the Eastern collegiate wrestling crown in May, defeated Nichidai
4-3.
SAKAMOTO AVENGES OPEN LOSS WITH WEST JAPAN CROWN
SAKAI, Osaka Prefecture (September 24) - Collegiate open runner-up Kenzo
Sakamoto of Nihon Bunri University avenged his loss with win over Ritsumeikan’s
Eiji Azuma for the 96-kg freestyle title at the West Japan student championships.
