OLYMPIC GR RESULTS - JAPAN (4TH SESSION)
ATHENS (August 25) - Results of bouts involving Japanese entries
in the fourth session of the greco-roman wrestling competition August 24-26
at Ano Liossia Olympic Hall:
60 kg (22 entries, 7 pools) - SASAMOTO, Makoto
Pool D
1R - df. Sidney Guzman (PER) by TF, 11-0, 2:31
2R - bye
3R - df. Davor Stefanek (SCG), 9-1
Sasamoto took advantage of his first par terre chance with a gut wrench, but misfired on the reverse waist lock and lift to give Stefanek a point. Sasamoto got rolling with an underarm spin, followed by another gut wrench. He received another two penalty points when Stefanek grabbed his legs to prevent being thrown the reverse waist lock. In the second period, Sasamoto showed the waist lock again but drove the other direction for the 9-1 win.
With the victory, Sasamoto finishes on top of his pool and advances
to the quarterfinal round where he will meet two-time Olympic champion
Armen Nazarian of Bulgaria. ・My opponent kept grabbing my legs on the
reverse waist lock, but I felt pretty good picking him up. I wrestled my
style and I was moving real well today. I hope I can keep it going tomorrow,・Sasamoto
said. ・My opponent tomorrow (Nazarian) is a specialist with the reverse
waist lock, so I want to throw him with my own. For four years (after losing
to Nazarian at the Sydney Olympics), I have practiced with the idea of
throwing Nazarian.・
