YOSHIDA BEATS YAMAMOTO IN CAMP, NEARS NAT'L
TEAM BERTH
TOKAMACHI, May 3 - The first round of national team trial
matches were held at the women's national
team training camp on May 3 with Saori Yoshida
posting a hard-earned 5-0 win over world
champion Seiko Yamamoto at 55 kg. The victory
put Yoshida another step closer to a berth
on the national team for the Asian Games
in Pusan, South Korea and world championships
in Greece this fall.
The Japan Women's Wrestling Federation
named the national team for the university
world championships in Edmonton, Canada on
June 21-25, pending the approval of the Japan
Collegiate Wrestling Federation.
The team is:
Manager: Saburo Sugiyama (Chukyo Women's
University). 48 kg: Mika Noguchi (CWU), 51
kg: Chiharu Icho (CWU), 55 kg: Seiko Yamamoto
(Nihon University), 59 kg: Saori Yoshida
(CWU), 63 kg: Rena Iwama (Repre, CWU graduate),
67 kg: Eri Sakamoto (CWU), 72 kg: Ayako Murashima
(CWU).
