JAPANESE CROWN PRINCE, BIG WRESTLING FAN?

TOKYO (December 23) - Crown Prince Naruhito -- the future emperor of Japan is apparently a well-versed fan of wrestling. According to Saburo Sugiyama, team director of the Chukyo Women's University wrestling team, New Zealand wrestling journalist Frank Shanly had the chance to meet the prince and Princess Masako during the couple's visit to New Zealand in mid-December. Shanly reportedly met with the prince and princess at a reception and was surprised by the prince's knowledge of wrestling.

The prince showed that he was well aware of the careers of former world champion sisters Miyu Yamamoto and Seiko Yamamoto as well as reigning world champion Kyoko Hamaguchi and her father, former pro wrestling great “Animal” Hamaguchi. Shanly concluded that the Japanese wrestling world must be doing a good job of public relations.
